A high-quality end product requires top-tier raw materials.

Requirements for brewing water vary. By selecting the optimal treatment process or combination of processes, we tailor our solutions to the specific needs of the brewmaster. Cooling water and boiler feed water are subject to specific quality criteria. Choosing the right treatment can reduce operating costs for cooling and heating. A large portion of water is used for bottle cleaning. By selecting the right water and utilizing modern recycling methods, you can significantly reduce fresh water consumption in this area.

Typical processes for the brewing industry:

Iron removal, manganese removal, degassing, filtration, decarbonization, ion exchange, reverse osmosis/nanofiltration, UV irradiation

The task

ATN Wasseraufbereitung was commissioned by Löwenbrauerei Hall to conduct a feasibility study on treating mineral water for use as brewing water. The idea of analyzing operational material and energy flows arose from a surplus of proprietary water and the concept of Sustainable Production – in other words, proactive environmental protection. Wildbadquelle Mineralbrunnen GmbH & Co. KG, which manages its own wells, has been part of the company since 1968. For reasons of quality and mineralization, the wells had to be managed continuously, even though not all the water is used in the production of mineral water and soft drinks.

Goals/Challenges

The goal is to achieve the most self-sufficient water supply possible using the volume profile of the well yields and the resulting excess water. Production of two water types with different mineralization (brewing water, process water). No use of additional chemicals for ecological reasons. Salinization of wastewater is to be avoided. No addition of sulfate to adjust brewing water quality. Integration of an energy management system that monitors all pumps to increase production efficiency. Commissioning in summer, during ongoing operations.
